For The Love of Coffee

Dearest Coffee...

You precious thing, you!

I adore you.

You're so warm and aromatic and so sooooothing!

There are people out there who will say that you're no good.

They just don't know you like I do.

I'll never take their side.

Never.

You're gooooooooood!

Soooo gooooooood!

And so generous.

You share your awesomeness with others.  For example:

Ice cream.

Protein Bars.

Chocolate.

And so...so many more.

You're devine, really you are.

In the morning when the kids wake me up at the crack of dawn whining for me to play with them after I've had only 4 hours sleep, I go to you.

You comfort me.

I thank you for that.

In the afternoon when I can't keep my eyes open and the kids are whining for me to play with them after I just spent an hour playing hot wheels, rock star and the like, you're there for me.

There's no one like you.

And when I add your friend, International Delight Caramel Macchiato Creamer (just a TBSP!), you are so creamy!

And you welcome the creamer with an open cup.

You don't take all the glory.

I love you for that.

I love you for it all.

Don't ever change.

Don't ever leave.

I could go on and on, but I'll end on this:

In the famous words of Tom Cruise in that movie with what's-her-name:

"You complete me".

Love,

Jill

Shhhh...Mommy's Got A Secret

Can you keep a secret?

I have a confession to make.

If I tell you, you CANNOT let my kids know...especially not my 5-year-old, Big T.  It could ruin my life!

Okay...here it is.

I like keeping Big T home from school on occasion.

I said "on occasion".  (I'm not crazy - well, only on buses and you can read about that HERE)

Ever since Kindergarten started for Big T this past September, the morning routine - to put it crudely - kicks my ass.  It doesn't help that I stay up so late every night reading blogs being very productive.  Even the nights I work late, I stay up even longer.  I like my "me" time too much to spend it unconscious.

Yesterday he hurt his upper thigh when he fell in gym.  Not bad...just a little muscle strain...possibly the groin (ouch!).  So when he said he couldn't go to school today because his leg hurt (and he thought he might need a wheelchair) I didn't contemplate it too much.  Possibly I was being a tad selfish.

A break from the morning rush??

I can stay in my jammies??

(Oh, and of course he should rest his leg)

One of my best girlfriends who is also a SAHM is in total agreement with me and we anticipate ProD days like it's some long-awaited holiday (only without the beach).

A lot of mom's would disagree, I know.  They'll go through the morning rush ten times over if it means having the rest of the day to do what they want.  But I still have a 3-year-old at home, so my hour and a half break when he's in preschool two days a week is golden...

...and so is the odd pj day at home!

I know one person who would agree with me...

The Ultimate PJ Wearer..er...??

It's Good News Friday so I'm linking up with Janae over at Diaries of a Grumpy Grateful Mom!  No, it's not good news that my son's leg is sore...but it's good news that we get to lounge in our pjs together today!

Brain Fart

The Urban Dictionary defines brain fart as:

n. A massive, horrible release of stupid that is often offensive to the senses and may create a social faux pas in some settings. Brainfarts often result in an intense feeling of embarrassment and shame compounded by an inability to explain what the hell just happened.

So...ever had one?

I just had a major one.

If you look at the top of my blog, you'll see a tab that says "Email me".  Then under that tab it shows an email address of mommyinconsistent.gmail.com.

Well, I forgot about it.  I've been using my personal email and have never really checked my Mommy Inconsistent one.  Thus...

I call brain fart.  (and say "oops")

I have no idea why it dawned on me to check it tonight, but it did.  So I did.  And now I should apologize to all the people who tried to contact me there and I didn't reply.  I'm usually not that lame, really I'm not.

Damn brain fart.

I missed some opportunities that I hope aren't too late, but if they are, then I'm a firm believer of it was meant to be...or not be.

*sigh*

The Liebster Blog Award

After a long, rainy, windy and cold day spent mostly inside with the boys the other day...pretty much a blah kind of day...I was pleasantly surprised when I opened up my email and noticed a comment from Brandi over at Yee Wittle Things and saw that she had awarded me with The Liebster Blog Award.  Yaaay!  Thank you so much, Brandi!  You made my day a 'lil (or a whole lot) sunnier!

For those curious souls out there like myself, "Liebster" is German and it means "favourite" or "dearest".  It  originated in Germany and is awarded as a way to kind of showcase up-and-coming bloggers with under 200 followers.  That's me - well, not sure about the up-and-coming bit...that would be nice...but I definitely have "under" 200 followers.  *nudge, nudge, wink, wink*

With each blog award, there are some simple rules to follow - to show appreciation and to share the love!

No. 1 is to thank the person who presented me with the award:  So once again, a BIG Thank You to Brandi over at Yee Wittle Things. Click on over and show some love and get your fix of cute kid pictures, 'cuz her Yee Wittle Things are adorable, especially her daughter lounging on her chaise.

No. 2 is to link back to the blogger who presented me with the award.  Well, I've done that already, but if you're unsure where to click...click HERE

No. 3 is to copy and paste the award on my blog.  CHECK!

No. 4 is to reveal my 5 blog picks.  In no particular order, they are:

The Preppy Girl In Pink

No. 5 is:  Making the bloggers I've chosen aware that I've chosen them.  Whoops!  That's 6!  (I know, I'm such a rebel)

Hoping three of you ladies don't mind the screen capture - you didn't have buttons I could grab.

I really enjoy all 6 of these blogs.  Please head on over and give them some love.

And thanks yet AGAIN, Brandi!

Good News Friday!

I couldn't resist doing two posts today because it's Grumpy Grateful Mom's Good News Friday and I want to share our good news from this past week.  The good news is:

IT SNOWED!

Might not be good news to some, but 'round here it means sledding, sledding, sledding!  I love the excitement that comes over my boys when they look out the window and see all the white stuff.  It's contagious!

Here is our snowy week in review:

Little K went a 'lil snow angel crazy
Oooh, this was a good one
I like to call this: "Snow Angel on Mazda"
Sledding with friends is the best!

I got my workout pulling them to and from school on the sled
I ask you:  Who's the cuter snowman?

Mmmmm, snowflakes!

Remember to link up and share your good news!

Martha Would Be So Disappointed.

I love Pinterest.

There are so many cute ideas out there for kids activities, home decor, party ideas, recipes and on and on.

It's inspiring.

Lately I've been feeling like trying my hand at some of the adorable baked goodies I see for the kids.  So when Big T came to me last night and asked if we could bake something, I thought "YES! I can try those cute cupcakes in the ice-cream cones that I pinned recently."

Of course I immediately went on Pinterest and pulled up the pic of the cones.  Here's what they are supposed to look like:

And...we got started.

STEP ONE:  The mixing of the batter.  All was good.  The boys were getting along, taking turns putting the ingredients into the bowl and taking turns mixing.  With such great behaviour, how could my cupcakes in a cone not turn out amazingly well?

STEP TWO:  The pouring of the batter into the cones.

Had a slight mishap when one of the cones had a crack in the bottom, prompting this to happen:

But we persevered.  Well, I did.  The boys went to watch TV.

STEP THREE:  Bake the damn cupcakes.  It only took 20 mins for this to happen:

Pretty sure if Martha Stewart were a baking teacher and I was in her class, I'd get a big fat "F"!  Who am I kidding?  It wouldn't have to be Martha...any 'ol high school baking teacher would do the same.

I ended up icing them and telling the kids that they will still taste good.  This is what they thought of the end result:

So my cupcakes were a colossal failure.  Cupcake points for trying though?

One good thing that came out of it was Hubby said the nicest thing upon observing my baking disaster.  His exact words were:  "Our oven is crap though."  Have sweeter words ever been spoken?  But then he told me I should've really read the instructions before I started.  (Whatever)

Even though these didn't work out as I had envisioned...I'm not going to give up trying new & cute treats to "bake" for the kids.

After all, my version of the melting snowman on a cupcake turned out great this past Christmas, if I do say so for myself, and here's the proof:

There's hope for me yet!

The Crazy Person On The Bus

(First off, I want to preface this post by saying that I mean no offence to crazy persons on buses.  None at all.  So don't go all crazy on me.)

Okay, so that being said, today I felt like the crazy person on the bus.

Again, no offence to this lady...she looks "lovely"
(pic courtesy of Sodahead)
It all started with my nephew coming over tonight to stay with my boys while I met Hubby down at an eyeglass place where I recently got some new glasses.  The new glasses are just not working for me so I wanted to change them.

Hubby had the car today so I had the brilliant idea of catching a bus and meeting him at the store once he was off work.

Not having a bus schedule, I just headed out the door and towards the nearest bus stop.  I had only walked a few steps down the sidewalk and I heard the sound of the bus behind me!

CRAP!  I was going to miss it!

So I started to run.

I thought it was fruitless.  He'd never stop for me.  Just as I was about to give up - because the bus stop was still a fair ways away - I noticed that the bus was stopping to pick someone up so I kept going for it.

And I was going fast.

(Well, fast for me anyways.)

For once I got a nice bus driver (they're often hard to come by) and he actually waited for me as I came flying down the sidewalk.

It was at that point that I realized something else was flying down but at a way faster speed than me.

MY FREAKIN' TIGHTS!!

I could not  believe what was happening!  They were coming down!  Damn these tights with the loose elastic!  Double damn that I didn't wear my old pregnancy belly band to keep them up!

Despite my dilemma, I kept running.  And they kept falling.

I made it to the bus in the nick of time.  I'm telling you, one more step was all it was going to take and I would have had something to say if someone ever asked me what my most embarrassing moment was.

Oh, did I mention it was rush hour so the bus was pretty packed?

I'm talking STANDING ROOM ONLY!

I got on with quite noticeably sagging tights.

(And a slight breeze on my bum.)

They looked kind of like this ...

... except worse.

Thank god I was wearing my longer coat.

All I kept thinking was how the eff was I going to hike them up with all these people around me?

But if I didn't, I risked giving everyone on the bus a hilarious story for tonight's dinner table conversation.  (That would've been pretty nice of me actually.)

A seat in the elderly/handicapped seats at the front became available so I sat down...my mind racing with what I had to do and how I was going to do it.

God forbid an elderly, handicapped or pregnant person got on the bus and I had to give up the seat.  There was no effin' way I could.  Then no doubt a fight would ensue as some good samaritan, seeing my selfishness at not getting up, insisted I do so.  Oh, gawd, it could have gotten really ugly!

I looked around.  Everyone seemed to be busy with their own lives (as people tend to be).  No one was really paying attention to me....yet!

I unzipped my jacket, reached my hand in, oh, so nonchalantly.  First the left side...then the right...trying to hike without wiggling.

It was no use.

They were too far gone ...

... and I was screwed!

My next move was texting Hubby to tell him of my dilemma.  'Cuz really, what else was I gonna do?  Buses are so boring, even with saggy tights and a bare bum.

What happened next was the crazy part.

I started to laugh as I texted and then read his reply.

Yep, I was laughing.  Out loud.

Then the tears came.  Laughing so hard the tears came.

(Crazy person)

I tried not to make eye contact with anyone, but when I did look up slightly after wiping my wet eyes, a lady across from me was smiling at me.

(She must have been crazy too)

I finally controlled myself and my stop came.

I zipped up my coat and waited 'til the very last second before bolting to the back door and off that bus.  I dashed into the lobby of the nearest office building and down a corridor where I could pull those suckers back up to where they were supposed to be.  I no doubt gave the security guard watching the security camera quite a thrill.  ('Cuz hiking up saggy tights is so hot!)

And that was it.  I went on to the eyeglass place and met Hubby.  Ordered some new frames, the tights stayed put and all was well.

And now I'm telling you about it.

I think that's what you call good blog fodder.  I always wanted to know what that term meant.

Now I know.

So tell me, what's your most embarrassing/crazy moment?

Pretty Please With A Cupcake On Top

I always like my boys to say "please".

Seems like I'm always after them, saying things like "What do you saaaaay?"

I think it's finally sinking in ...

Best Quote of 2011

Big T is constantly saying "When I'm as big as you, can I"..."When I'm as big as Daddy, can I..."

He wants to discipline his 'lil bro just like Mommy & Daddy.

But I think the best quote of the past year has got to be ...

"Mom, when I'm as big as you and Daddy and I yell at my kids, am I still on the good list?"

My response?

"Um...yah, Buddy."

NOT a New Year Resolution

I'm not really into New Year Resolutions.  They're too hard to keep.  Last year my only resolution was to moisturize and even that didn't really work out as I had hoped.  Whatchagonnado?  Life's a busy bitch.

I did start something today though, but I'm not calling it a resolution...though I resolve to keep with it.  I know that doesn't make much sense, but I never said this blog would make any sense.  Hey, perhaps that should be my New Year Resolution.

But I digress.

Today Hubby and I started a Couch to 5k running programme, guaranteed that if we follow it, it will turn us from this...

into this...

...in just 9 weeks.  So at the end of the 9 weeks, we will be able to run continuously for 30 mins, get in shape and burn off some belly fat that's just been growing and growing as of late.  I'm so glad that Hubby is into this too so we can do it together, cheer each other on and push each other out the door because that always seems to be the hardest part for me.  Once I'm out there, it's all good...I feel great afterwards, but then it's the doing it over and over again that becomes difficult.  That and not eating cookies, chips, etc.

It went well today.  It's a really easy programme to follow.  You buy the App for your iPhone and you can listen to your own music while a lovely British woman (well, she sounds lovely) prompts you to warm up, walk, jog and cool down.  This week we're basically running only for 1 minute, 8 times and walking a minute and a half in between.  Totally doable.

The App is called Get Running (Couch to 5k).  Here's what it looks like on your iPhone...

So wish us luck!  We even took some "before" pics of what we look like now, but I WILL NOT be posting them - at least not yet.  Maybe when I look like the woman in the pic above, then I'll post the before pics, but for now they just make me want to eat a cookie.

I will post this though.  I had Hubby take a pic of me as I was heading out today.

Happy New Year!
