While He Sleeps ...

While he sleeps I tiptoe...
to the side of his bed where
I listen to the sound of his breath
in and out.

While he sleeps I smile...
and gently stroke his
soft, chubby cheek.
He's so little and
sometimes I forget that.

While he sleeps I think...
of him as a big boy of 5
to his little brother of 3,
sweet one minute, ornery the
next and I get sad.

While he sleeps I see...
his struggles of being that big
boy of 5, wanting to be that
little boy of 3, wanting to play with his
Mom all day instead of being in school

While he sleeps I wonder...
Did I enjoy him enough when
he was 3, like I do his brother
or was I too busy with an infant.

While he sleeps I vow...
to be more patient, more
aware that he is still so young,
to enjoy him more...
My little big boy of 5.

Oh, this was so very sweet. I worry the same thing about that time that was taken away because I was focused on an infant out of the NICU with issues and couldn't give the quality I wanted to give to her big sister. I love bedtime when they are truly at peace.

Thanks for stopping by. I headed over to visit you as well...can't believe I wasn't following you as I've stopped by before. Well, I've fixed that. :)

Thanks, Kristen. I think about this all the time...I look at pictures just to remember...trying to make it so I don't say the same thing at 5, 6, 7...etc!

Oh, I loved this so much. So sweet and relatable. I do the same thing often...watch my kids sleep. They look so adorable and angelic and I wish I could stop the hands of time.

On a funny note, a friend of mine once told me, "You know why all kids look like angels when they sleep? It's so you don't kill them when they're awake."

Oh, this is so sweet! When they sleep- I look down at their sweet faces and think that I've done it all wrong.

What a lovely post...and a simply gorgeous photo! Sometimes it's hard yet beautiful at the same time to be a parent isn't it?

This was so beautifully written friend.
REally.
I worry about my son starting school in September. I wonder if I'm playing with him enough...I know I'll miss all of it when he starts school...

Thank you, Kim. I'm really trying to be more aware so I'm not saying the same thing every year of his life! Kindergarten is better for him now, but it took awhile before he would stop crying that he didn't want to go...heartbreaking.

I feel the same...I think the next day after writing this I kind of lost my patience - oops! What can I say, I'm a work in progress.
